The Forbidden Tour
The Forbidden Tour is arguably the most classic ski mountaineering traverse in Washington State, packing an enormous amount of quality terrain into a relatively compact and elegant line through the heart of the North Cascades. While it’s shorter in distance than some of the longer Cascadian traverses, it more than makes up for it with dramatic scenery, complex glaciated travel, and exceptionally consistent fall-line skiing from start to finish. The route winds beneath some of the most iconic peaks in the range—Forbidden Peak, Sharkfin Tower, and Mount Torment—delivering big alpine exposure and sustained, aesthetic descents day after day.
One of the highlights of the Forbidden Tour is its flexibility and ambition: depending on weather, snow conditions, and group energy, the tour can include summit ski descents of Sahale Mountain and Eldorado Peak, both of which offer unforgettable views and long, flowing runs. For a traverse of its size, the skiing is remarkably good, with far fewer flat glacier slogs and far more rewarding downhill travel than is typical. We also offer an optional fourth day, allowing for extra skiing, an additional summit objective, or simply a more relaxed pace that lets you savor the terrain and scenery. Whether done in three days or stretched to four, the Forbidden Tour delivers a quintessential North Cascades ski mountaineering experience.
